Dedication to a DeLorean

The 1980s just wouldn’t quite be the same without DeLorean Motor Company.   Though it got its start in 1975 and was through by 1982, the DMC-12 has to be in the top 5 of famous cars from the decade.   From the legend of John DeLorean (in short – a meteoric rise at GM, creating his own car company and then a scandal of entrapment and forever being tied to cocaine trafficking despite an acquittal) to being immortalized in film by the Back to the Future franchise, this car will never be forgotten by time.

The DMC-12 fell short of what was expected of it performance-wise, yet the style and uniqueness of the car continues to inspire.  If you haven’t seen this unbelievably gorgeous and all-too-short clip by Florian Renner, you need to, trust me:

It goes to show the lines of the car are retro-futuristic perfection.  There is no question as to why a talented artist would choose a DeLorean to showcase a flawless grasp of 1980s style.  No excuses needed.

That brings us to a much more dedicated display of DMC-12 inspiration.  The following video is an entertaining example of what the right car can do to the right person.  In this case the car is, of course, a DMC-12.  The person, Dave Stragand.  The challenge, immense.  Despite discouraging remarks from enthusiasts Dave pulled this DeLorean from near-certain destruction and, over the course of 5 years (and an impressively small sum of $25,000), turned Project Vixen into a show winner.

Anyone who has ever had a serious project car can appreciate the highs and lows, the time and money spent and the satisfaction of having seen something like this through.  Well done, Dave!
